Korea Light Co. Ltd. was founded by Dr. Eui Suk Kang after he was inspired to create more effective emergency exit signs upon witnessing the tragic subway fire of 2003 in the city of Daegu, Korea which killed nearly 200 people. One of the major causes of death was the depleted backup batteries inside the exit signs that failed to emit light and guide pedestrians to safety. Determined, Dr. Kang set out to invent a longer-lasting battery for these signs and began researching supercapacitor technology under a Korean energy firm in 2003. He eventually established his own company, Korea Light Co. Ltd, and produced his internationally-patented ENPAX supercapacitors in 2010 which are now used in Korean emergency exit signs. Shortly after his products went public, Dr. Kang saw the increasing demand worldwide for cleaner and better energy sources and subsequently produced a supercapacitor for use in solar street lights. He has set up demonstrations of these street lights a few years ago in countries such as Guinea and the UAE and are still functioning flawlessly to this day with no additional maintenance required. Dr. Kang now wishes to bring his products for us in the U.S. market and suitable for U.S.-made products. Korea Light currently employees eight people in Korea and three more in its KL USA LLC. branch office in Maryland, USA.


Supercapacitors: Super Capable

We live in a world where the demand for reliable, sustainable and cleaner energy sources is surging. Traditional lithium-ion batteries have been a mainstay for years in devices that require a rechargeable energy source, such as smartphones, handheld power tools, and mobile backup power sources. Rechargeable batteries, however, have limited reliability due to the degradation caused by charge/discharge cycling and exposure to elevated temperatures during charging or outdoor use. This not only causes consumers to either spend more on batteries or to replace such electronic products altogether. The batteries themselves also pose an environmental hazard once discarded due to their chemical components. Lithium-ion batteries in particular are associated with serious safety issues involving the possibility of bursting, fire, or explosion while in use that can cause serious personal injury or even death in addition to significant physical damage. In this regard, supercapacitors have the potential to provide a cleaner and more sustainable alternative energy source that could replace the use of lithium and cadmium-based batteries in the near future.
Supercapacitors, sometimes known as electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs), have rapidly gained importance as high power energy sources over the past ten years. Supercapacitors bridge the gap between conventional capacitors (such as film or electrolytic capacitors) and lithium ion batteries in terms of both power and energy densities. In supercapacitors the traditional dielectrics are replaced by “electric double layers” which are only a couple of molecules thick, and the electrodes are designed to have a very high specific surface area. This combination of extremely small dielectric thickness and high surface area provides supercapacitors with a very high charge storage capacity per unit volume, which is associated with their high energy density. The small internal distance that charges must travel during charge or discharge events provides supercapacitors with a much lower internal resistance than batteries, allowing them to deliver charge more rapidly than batteries and leading to their high power density.

- Prominent efficiency and long life span: by incorporating capacitor charging and discharging method, life span increased by up to 10 times and standby power is greatly minimized by using High-Intensity Discharge Lamps.
- Green technology: elimination of using lead-acid with nickel
- Cost saving: Since the light life span is almost permanent, the maintenance cost can be dramatically reduced in terms of inspection manpower cost and battery change cost Our guide lights have the following features:
